MEP Malta

What is MEP?

The Model European Parliament is a simulation of the European Parliament for young people aged 16-19 that has been running since 1994.  Model European Parliament sessions can take place at national, regional and international levels.  Around 30 countries are eligible to participate in international sessions, while euroregional sessions involving about 10 countries per regional session are usually organised to give delegates an opportunity for more exposure.  As the national coordinator of MEP Europe in Malta, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ organises national sessions to prepare Maltese delegates to take part in international sessions which are held in different European destinations every 6 months. Since March 2020, international sessions are being held virtually due to the travel restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Who is it For?

Young people aged 16-19 can apply for national sessions.  The best 5 delegates are invited to take part in the subsequent international session, and their travelling costs are also subsidised to incentivise all young people to participate, especially those who would otherwise be unable to manage the financial cost of taking part in an international session.

What will it do for me?

The Model European Parliament is the place for young ideas, the forum for youth democracy and parliamentarism, and the venue for future decision makers.  It gives you an opportunity to excel in public speaking, debating, lobbying, writing resolutions, working in a team, and more importantly to make new friends.

How can you be part of this programme?

Applications will open in November 2022
