Youth.inc is based on the idea that success can be achieved by young people if they are engaged and motivated to participate actively in an applied learning environment which is practical in its approach. One of the key attractions of this type of learning is that young people are given the opportunity to apply their learning in the context of real life and work situations and challenges.
Youth workers, employed by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, act as mentors and ensure that the young people on the programme are actively involved in the learning process. The youth workers are also responsible for supervising the validation of the young people’s learning.
Youth.inc is currently offered as a full time programme over a 1 to 3 year period at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 of the Maltese Qualifications Framework.
The entry requirement for Level 1 is completion of full-time compulsory education. The minimum entry age is 16 years with preferably at least nine years of full-time education. Applicants should have a Level 1 Secondary School Certificate and Profile or a comparable certification. Applicants must sit for an assessment which determines their participation in either Level 1 or Level 2 depending on their competencies and skills.
The language of instruction is bilingual – English and Maltese. Young people who do not know Maltese are encouraged to attend the course ‘Maltese as a Foreign Language’ before registering with Youth.inc.
In addition to core curriculum subjects such as English, Maltese, Applied Maths and Basic IT Skills, Youth.inc also provides other areas of studies to improve the young people’s life skills and access to employment. All these programme options adopt a hands-on and project based approach. They aim to provide young people on the programme with as many options and experiences of real working life as possible.
