podcast series launched by Agenzija Zghazagh

Roots & Routes aims to establish and enhance connections with young Maltese living abroad.

Through this initiative we trace the understanding of Maltese identity for these young people – their roots – across the routes taken by themselves, their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. We discover different ways in which young people live being Maltese outside of the homeland.

Recordings have been taking place since December and throughout this period we have traced young people across the world.

We speak of Brexit challenges with those in the UK

Get to know about the Maltese communities in Canada and Australia

Become acquainted with several young people across Europe

Meet young students in China, Tunisia and Dubai

We meet those who have taken the plunge themselves to move beyond our waters, and others who have lived all their lives away from the island. Some have never visited.

What is it like for them to identify as Maltese?

Where do they find home?

This podcast facilitates a space where we explore narratives of young people in the Maltese diaspora thereby encouraging a broad understanding of identity, nationality, migration and global mobility.
New podcasts are released every Friday.
