10 Schools awarded the Gold Student's Council Democracy Awards by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ held its annual certificate award ceremony for the Student Councils Democracy Awards programme. This programme aims to develop democratic values among student council members both in secondary and post-secondary schools. A total of 289 students from 29 different schools from Malta and Gozo took part in this program. Honourable Keith Azzopardi Tanti, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation was also present for the ceremony.

The Student Council’s Democracy Awards recognises the work of student councils through a three-graded certification system: gold, silver, and bronze. The programme also evaluates the various skills student council members develop during their tenure such as leadership, organisation, planning, and inclusion to name a few. For this year 10 schools were awarded a gold certificate, 9 were awarded silver and 11 were awarded bronze.

Student Council’s Democracy Awards encourage the active participation of young people within their communities and promote their acquisition of leadership skills which are essential in a democratic society.
