My New School Adventure and the Secondary School Survival Kit were officially launched yesterday by the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sport and Voluntary Organisations during a press conference held at Agenzija Zghazagh Head Office at St. Venera. Over 500 students have enrolled for these sessions which are being facilitated by 6 youth workers in small groups of 10/15 to ensure that all the participants enjoy quality time with their youth worker and as a group. Dr. Clifton Grima was able to join an online session yesterday, where he took part in the icebreaker and asked the young people to relate their experiences of the first session.
My New School Adventure targets students who will be starting Year 7 next year, and Secondary School Survival Kit is intended for students who will be starting their last 3 years of secondary school. Both sessions target similar skills but catered for the different age groups, covering mainly goal setting, time management, strengths and weaknesses, friendships, rights and responsibilities, coping strategies and other issues which the participants themselves bring up during the discussions.
These programmes are being held online and are being offered at different times and pace. In this manner, students will be able to find time to balance the sessions with their other summer obligations. Students who complete the whole course will be presented with a certificate of attendance.
