Unlearn and Uplift: Empowering Young Voices for a More Equal Future
Unlearn and Uplift: Empowering Young Voices for a More Equal Future
What does it mean to unlearn what we have always been told, and uplift new ways of thinking? In today’s world, where young people are constantly exposed to information online and offline, it is more important than ever to question stereotypes, challenge misinformation, and build respectful, inclusive communities.
This is exactly the thinking behind Unlearn and Uplift, a life skills programme delivered by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The initiative forms part of Malta’s national contribution to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda 2025–2030. This long-term plan promotes gender equality, inclusion, and active participation in building peaceful societies. As one of the contributors to this work plan, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is committed to engaging young people in meaningful conversations and practical learning experiences that strengthen these values.
Unlearn and Uplift is designed to create safe spaces where young people can explore topics such as gender equality, identity, stereotypes, and the impact of misinformation. Through interactive sessions, participants are encouraged to reflect, share perspectives, and develop skills to navigate complex social issues.
The programme recognises that young people are not just learners, but also agents of change. By equipping them with critical thinking and communication skills, Unlearn and Uplift empowers participants to contribute positively to their communities.
The Unlearn and Uplift workshops will take place during the summer, hosted at selected youth-friendly venues organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. These sessions are designed to be engaging, accessible, and relevant to young people from different backgrounds.

Unlearn and Uplift is part of a wider effort by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ to support the WPS agenda and address issues affecting young people today. This includes: “Misinformation and the Gender Divide” information points and workshops delivered in post-secondary schools. Misinformation and gender bias continue to influence how people see themselves and others. By addressing these challenges early, young people can build stronger, more respectful relationships and develop a clearer understanding of their role in society.
Through programmes like Unlearn and Uplift, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is helping young people not only to question what they have learned, but also to grow, lead, and uplift others.
